What happened to Venice? - 9/11/21

I had a few extra days off this trip and thought I would take the train to Venice for the weekend.  I have fond memories of deserted lovely tucked away streets...authentic shops, amazing food and the sounds and sights of a truly magnificent masterpiece of a city.

Today, I was greeted by an overload of tourists...loud speakers announcing the many train and boat schedules, hundreds of Indian street vendors selling goods made in India certainly NOT made in Italy. And, touristy food menus!  How sad and pathetic it is to see a city lose it's "self".  I guess that old saying "you can't go back" is true...maybe better off leaving your wonderful memories to yourself rather than create disappointment?
